Bexley's Holiday Season Fits Between 2200 and 2424 East Main Street

Where does Bexley's public calendar go after the farmers market closes? The Bexley Farmers Market ran Thursday afternoons at Main Street and Dawson Avenue, and its season ended October 22. From then until the second week of December, most of what is on the schedule happens on one short stretch of East Main Street. The addresses run from 2200 to 2424.

That stretch holds a 1937 movie theater with two weekly repertory series, the public library with a four-day book sale and a holiday concert, an independent bookstore, a gift shop, a 30-year-old Italian restaurant, and a new parking garage. For one weekend in early December, the calendar adds stops at Jeffrey Mansion and Drexel Circle. The following Monday night, it is back to Main Street alone.

The Stretch, Address by Address

Walking east from the newest building to the bookstore, here is what each address offers between mid-November and December 7.

Address Place What's on through Dec. 7
2200 E. Main St. The Fitzgerald Structured garage with about 300 spaces
2254 E. Main St. Drexel Theatre Monday 7 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 p.m. repertory series
2260 E. Main St. Urban Emporium Handmade soaps, local jewelry, small-batch gifts
2268 E. Main St. Giuseppe's Ritrovo Classic Italian dishes and a lively bar
2411 E. Main St. Bexley Public Library Fall Book Sale Nov. 12–15; Holiday Concert Dec. 7
2424 E. Main St. Gramercy Books and Kittie's Cakes Holiday table, kids' section, cinnamon rolls

The Fitzgerald held its grand-opening ribbon cutting on August 14. The mixed-use building includes residences, about 11,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space, offices, and its roughly 300-space garage. Its named restaurant tenant, Hudson 29 Kitchen + Drink, is slated to open in spring 2027, according to the opening announcement. So this season the building mostly supplies parking at the west end of the stretch. That garage sits a few doors from the Drexel, and the theater is where the weekly schedule comes from.

The Drexel Runs on Two Fixed Nights

From now into December, the Drexel Theatre programs Monday and Saturday nights as series. On Mondays, its A Case of the Mondays program is running "Neo-Noirvember" at 7 p.m. On Saturdays, the Eccentric Cinema series starts at 9:30 p.m.

Mondays at 7 p.m.

  • November 16: Blood Simple
  • November 23: Point Blank
  • November 30: American Gigolo
  • December 7: Raiders of the Lost Ark

Saturdays at 9:30 p.m.

  • November 14: Buffalo '66
  • November 21: Popeye
  • November 28: Superman
  • December 5: RoboCop

These two series give the month a set rhythm. The Saturday that follows Thanksgiving ends with Superman. The first Saturday of December ends with RoboCop, the same day that starts with pancakes at Jeffrey Mansion. In its November issue, Columbus Monthly also reports that the 1937 theater hosts family-friendly showings of Elf and The Polar Express during the holiday season, and that "Christmas jammies" are encouraged.

The Library Book Sale Opens the Stretch's Busiest Weeks

About 150 address numbers east of the Drexel, the Friends of Bexley Public Library hold their Fall Book Sale in the Bexley Library Auditorium at 2411 E. Main St. over four days with different hours each day:

  • Thursday, November 12, 5 to 8 p.m.
  • Friday, November 13, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, November 15, 1 to 4 p.m.

The Saturday of the sale is also the night Buffalo '66 plays at the Drexel at 9:30 p.m., so on November 14 the library and the theater both have something scheduled. The Thursday evening opening also falls on the night of the week the farmers market used to fill at Main and Dawson.

Holiday Shopping at the East End

The book sale's block is also where Columbus Monthly sent readers for holiday shopping in its November 2026 Bexley guide. Gramercy Books at 2424 E. Main St. is Bexley's independent bookstore. The magazine points to its curated holiday table and the kids' section in the back. Kittie's Cakes is attached to the bookstore, and Columbus Monthly reports it serves what it calls "the best cinnamon roll in Columbus" along with a spiced Nashville Hoodie latte.

Back toward the Drexel, Urban Emporium at 2260 E. Main St. sells handmade soaps, local jewelry, and small-batch gifts, and the magazine describes it as a shop that rewards slow browsing. Two doors down at 2268 E. Main St., Giuseppe's Ritrovo is the stretch's dinner stop. Columbus Monthly calls it a 30-year Bexley institution known for its lively bar, veal piccata, and cacio e pepe.

The one stop in the magazine's guide that sits off Main Street is the morning one. Fox's Bagel & Deli at 3012 E. Broad St. sells New York-style bagels, challah, and boxes of rugelach, which the magazine suggests as a hostess gift for holiday parties. Broad Street is also where the calendar's first big off-Main event happens.

December 5 to 7, When the Calendar Spreads Beyond Main Street

For one weekend, Jeffrey Mansion and Drexel Circle share the schedule with the Drexel. On the Monday everything is back on Main Street.

  1. Saturday, December 5, from 8:30 a.m. The Pancake Breakfast at Jeffrey Mansion, 165 N. Parkview Ave., is organized by Bexley Recreation & Parks, the Bexley Historical Society, and Boy Scout Troop 166. According to the city's event page, the breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee, and Mrs. Claus visits to ice cookies and take photos with children.
  2. Saturday, December 5, 9:30 p.m. RoboCop closes out the day at the Drexel.
  3. Sunday, December 6, 5 to 7 p.m. The Christmas Tree Lighting takes place at Drexel Circle, at the corner of Drexel Avenue and Broad Street, according to the city calendar.
  4. Monday, December 7, 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Holiday Concert with Friday Night Live fills the Bexley Library Auditorium at 2411 E. Main St. Ben Gelber's group performs klezmer and traditional Jewish music.
  5. Monday, December 7, 7 p.m. Raiders of the Lost Ark plays at the Drexel.

Columbus Monthly reports that Bexley holds both a Christmas tree lighting and a menorah lighting ceremony to open the December season. Like the tree lighting, the menorah lighting takes place at Drexel Circle.

The Monday after the weekend shows how compact the stretch is. The library concert starts at 6:30 p.m. at 2411 E. Main St., and Raiders starts at 7 p.m. at 2254 E. Main St. That puts two public events on the same street on the same night, starting thirty minutes apart, with the Fitzgerald garage at 2200 E. Main St. a few doors from the theater.

Planning Around the Two Peak Days

Two days stand out on the calendar. On Saturday, November 14, the book sale runs at the library during the day and Buffalo '66 plays at the Drexel that night. On Monday, December 7, the concert and Raiders overlap in the evening. On both days, a lot sits in a 224-number span of East Main Street. On the weekend in between, the tree lighting at Drexel and Broad and the breakfast at 165 N. Parkview Ave. add stops beyond Main for a Saturday morning and a Sunday evening.

If you want to spend part of a Saturday at the Drexel, the series order is fixed through December 5. Popeye plays November 21 and Superman plays November 28. The Monday noir run ends with American Gigolo on November 30, and then Raiders plays December 7.

I'm Michelle Balzer, and much of how I describe Bexley to clients comes from weeks like these, from the bookstore at 2424 to the theater at 2254.
